Birds
Endemic, Resident, and Migrant Bird species total 430 + in Sri Lanka’s wet and dry zones. As the country is small, one can cover habitats of varying character within about two weeks. Sinhraja, Kitulgala or Bodhinagala are hot spots for the Endemics. Uda Walawe, Yala, Bundala, Hambantota, Talangama etc can be clubbed together for species common to India. Up north, Sigiriya Rock Fortress presents ground birds and archaeological sites in and around. |

Sri Lanka is like the paradise for endemic birds (26 species recorded) like : Sri Lanka Wood Pigeon, Sri Lanka Hanging Parakeet, Layard’s Parakeet, Red-faced Malkoha, Green-bellied Coucal, Sri Lanka Grey Hornbill, Yellow-fronted Barbet, Crimson-fronted Barbet, Black-crested Bulbul, Yellow-eared Bulbul, Sri Lanka Whistling Thrush, Spot-winged Thrush, Sri Lanka Bush Warbler, Dull-blue Flycatcher, Brown-capped Babbler, Orange-bellied Babbler, Ashy-headed Laughing Thrush, Legg’s Flower-pecker, Sri Lanka White-eye, Sri Lanka Blue Magpie, White-faced Starling, Sri Lanka Myna, Black-throated Munia etc.
